The Leap Venture Studio blog series is back for another exciting year! In March 2024, six innovative early-stage pet care startups joined the 12-week program to accelerate their ventures.

These companies partnered with experts from Mars Petcare and Michelson Found Animals, gaining access to venture capital investment, mentorship, and tailored programming designed to help meet their individual needs.

Plus, for the first time one company joined the Leap Venture Studio as a company of impact, where they received an award to further their exceptional level of social impact for both pets and their people.

WIMBA is dedicated to enhancing pet mobility through innovative, 3D-printed orthotics and prosthetics.

Grzegorz (Greg) Kosch, CEO and Co-founder and Franek Kosch, COO and Co-founder

Tell Us About Your Startup

Greg: WIMBA is on a mission to improve pet mobility through innovative, 3D-printed orthotics and prosthetics for dogs and cats. We partner with veterinarians worldwide to deliver customized orthopedic solutions that enhance the quality of life for pets. To date, we’ve completed over 1,000 orders, working with more than 250 veterinary clinics across 30 countries.

How Has Your Startup Made a Difference for Pets?

Greg: Our solutions help pets move more comfortably and recover faster, offering support for joint and spinal issues. We’ve made it possible for dogs and cats to regain their mobility and enjoy happier lives with solutions designed to meet their unique orthopedic needs.

What Are the Greatest Challenges You’ve Faced as a Startup Founder and How Have You Overcome Them?

Greg: Our journey hasn’t been without its challenges. One big hurdle has been managing the complexities of running a hardware and medical device startup globally. Another challenge has been educating veterinary professionals about orthotics as a viable treatment and prevention option. We’ve approached these challenges with solid planning and a strong focus on raising awareness, educating vets, and encouraging the adoption of orthotics as a real solution.

What Is Your Biggest Takeaway From the Leap Venture Studio?

Franek: The Leap Venture Studio was invaluable for expanding our knowledge and network. We gained insights from other founders around the world and had access to leading experts who helped us better understand the pet care industry. The connections and expertise we gained have been game-changing for our growth.

What Advice Would You Give Fellow Pet Care Founders Just Starting Their Journey?

Franek: Be both efficient and patient. Success takes time, especially in the pet care industry. Building a startup in pet care is a rewarding yet demanding journey. Focus on solving real problems, stay adaptable, and maintain a long-term perspective to navigate the industry’s complexities.

Tell Us About Your Pet(s)!

Greg: Our team is full of pet lovers! Some of our pets are healthy, while others benefit from our solutions. Among them is Amidala (see the video), an 8-year-old Alaskan malamute diagnosed with bilateral carpal hyperextension. Thanks to our WIMBA Carpal Orthotic, Amidala enjoys improved mobility and quality of life.
